Parent Education at Sherwood ElementaryWelcome to the 2019-2020 school year in the Preschool Education Program at Sherwood Elementary. As your Parent Educator, I will be providing support the teachers, students and parents in all the PEP classes at Sherwood Elementary. The parent educator responsibilities with PEP include developing positive and trusting relationships with families to support student success and designing and conducting parent support groups and workshops. Along with your child’s teacher I may also, provide support for behavioral interventions at home and school, information about child development, social skills, toileting, etc. to parents on an individual basis. We can also arrange guided observations of classrooms for parents throughout the year. Beginning in December/January I will begin educating parents about the IEP and kindergarten transitions processes which includes tours to various programs in school's closest to your home and discussing the best possible kindergarten setting for your child. The biggest part of my job that takes much of my time throughout the school year involves scheduling, communicating about, chairing and participating in IEP meetings as well as finalizing the paperwork and disseminating it afterwards. We are also always available to answer questions or address your concerns about your child’s education throughout the year!
