The weather has finally warmed up! We have been spending a lot of time learning about spring, plants, flowers and insects. We closed out our community helper centers and have changed them over to fun spring and summer themes. Ms. Angela has a garden center and a camp site. Ms. Catherine's classroom has been turned into a beach, complete with sea creatures!

At the beginning of the month we finished up our community helpers unit with a trip to the Cacoctin Zoo. It was such a great day! The sun was out and the weather was beautiful. We were able to see so many animals up close and personal. We want to say a BIG thank you to all the parents who helped by chaperoning, we couldn't have done it without you! Today we had a visit from Officer Mike! It was so much fun learning about what he does to keep us safe! We practiced calling 9-1-1 (on a pretend phone of course) and then did an art project together. We also got to explore his police cruiser, he even let us push some buttons to hear the lights and sirens! We had so much fun meeting Officer Mike and learning that police officers are our friends and are there to help us when we need them! Calling all Pep Helpers......we had a great time learning about emergency workers this week. We've been dressing up like fire fighters and putting out our very own fires (made of paper of course). On Tuesday we got a visit from the local Fire Station and boy was it cool! We got to sit in the giant fire engine, meet the fire fighters and walk through the ambulance. We had a ball and learned that fire fighters are our friends and even all geared up they're there to help us!! Later in the week we'll get a visit from a police officer and his squad car.....check back to see how much trouble we got into. We have had so much fun learning about teeth and how to take care of our teeth this week! Today we had 3 visitors from Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center in Silver Spring. It was so much fun learning about how important brushing and flossing our teeth is! They even read us a book called "Bear's Loose Tooth." It was fun seeing that going to the dentist isn't so scary! We got bags full of goodies from the dentist including a coloring book, some tips for our parents and a fun new tooth brush! Today we started our community helpers theme! For the next month or so we will be learning about all the different people in our community that help us and make our community better! Our play centers are pretty awesome! Ms. Angela's classroom has been converted into a bustling city with a very busy and productive construction site complete with wrecking ball! Ms. Catherine has three play centers. We opened the doors to our very own PEP Clinic, which began seeing patients right away! Students have been exploring tools and diggers in our sensory bin and have enjoyed playing police and firefighter in our cars area. We will have lots of different visitors over the course of this theme so keep a look our for those pictures! After several snow days and a week off, we finally got to have our valentines day party, check it out!
Both PEP classes have started learning about restaurants. We've set up an amazing italian restaurant called "PEPpers" in Ms. Catherine's class, complete with a salad bar, pizza station and an aromatic pasta sensory table! In Ms. Angela's classroom we're flippin some dogs and burgers at "PEP Burgers", making sandwiches, soups and salads at "PEPanara" and don't forget the sensory experience of our ice cream truck. Our Peppers have really enjoyed showing off their chef talents during play, but we've also whipped up some yummy edible and inedible crafty recipes. Our theme has also lead us to read some fun books such as "Pizza Party" & "Pete's Big Lunch" where we made a too big to eat silly sandwich. Sherwood PEP has the recipe for fun, so check us out!!! This month we welcomed 2 new friends and guess what, they're twins!! We got to celebrate their birthday on their first day of school! In February he kiddos enjoyed activities related to stores and shopping. We had our very own Target, sporting goods store and grocery store. The children also enjoyed our flower shop around Valentines day where they could make bouquets for their moms and favorite teachers. You will also see some chocolatiers crafting yummy chocolate hearts (made out of chocolate play dough) to sell for the holiday. |
