We have had such a fun few weeks learning about winter clothes and snowmen! Some of our favorite activities were playing with snow play-dough, making a snowman snack, scooping up snowballs and pretending to ice skate and sled! We focused on rhyming and counting in Ms. Catherine's class and ordering & comparing in Angela's class! In Ms. Catherine's class we read a rhyming mitten poem and practiced counting snowballs :) Ms. Angela's class read "Snowmen at Night" and "All You Need for a Snowman", acting out parts of the story together. Winter's not over yet though...... we're sure there will be more fun to come!

We got our play worthy snowfall in December and decided to bring the fun inside. During recess we took our shovels outside and scooped up a heaping pile of snow. We got out our watercolors and decided to paint the snow. We had some experienced fourth graders join us and everyone seemed to have a great time painting and even holding the snow!!
Today we finished up our gingerbread/family unit by decorating our very own gingerbread boys and girls. We had a lot of fun squeezing all the different colored icing onto our cookies and then adding different candies as eyes, noses, and buttons. We all tasted our cookies! Some friends loved their cookies, others preferred to eat the candy without the cookie! Everybody had a great time! The PEP team here at Sherwood wants to wish everybody happy holidays and a very wonderful New Year! We can't wait to see you all in 2014!!!!! After a few snow days we are finally back at school! This week we started our gingerbread theme! We are reading "The Gingerbread Family"! We started the week by making gingerbread boys and girls out of scented playdough! It was a lot of fun! We aldo decorated our dollhouse to look like gingerbread! We took a small break from gingerbread to enjoy the snow, we used watercolors to paint the snow different colors. We loved feeling the cold snow and then making it change colors! Winter is fun! We had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving with our school family! We started the party off by singing our "Silly Turkey" song and showing off our awesome Thanksgiving hats, then we dug in! We had all kinds of food and everybody did a great job tasting new things. The mashed potatos, stuffing and pumpkin pie seemed to be the favorites. Our PEP team here at Sherwood wants to wish everybody a very happy Thanksgiving! We will see you in December :) We celebrated 2 Birthday's this month here at school and two more over the weekends. Ms. Whitney and another friend enjoyed thier parties here at school! Happy Birthday to all our November babies!
Today both classes made super yummy apple pie milkshakes! Each friend helped us to gather our ingredients and read the directions. We took turns scooping ice cream and apple pie filling and putting it into the blender. Then we added a few shakes of cinnamon and a splash of milk and it was time to blend. It was so much fun pressing the button on the blender and watching the icecream spin around! The best part was squeezing the yummy caramel on top of our milkshakes! Everybody tasted the milkshakes and some friends couldn't get enough!!!! We love cooking!! This week we welcomed three new friends to Ms. Catherine's class. We are so happy to have them here. We made sure to play lots of fun games and work on learning everybody's names. We had a lot of fun playing in our home and apple themed centers during inclusion! This week Ms. Catherine's class took advantage of the beautiful weather and went on several nature walks. We especially enjoyed riding the bikes outside around the track! We read the poem "Fall the Leaves" and had a blast raking and throwing the leaves all around the classroom! Fall is one of our favorite times of the year! This week we read the story "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt", then we went on our own hunt for leaves behind the school building. We found big leaves and small leaves of all different shapes. That whole week we had some sensory fun with our leaves and a different texture/material every day. Check out our day with leaves and paint! We loved how it felt and looked!
